US Men's National Team in the Finals of Confederations Cup
All I can say is WOW! A team that looked out matched and deflated is now in the finals. I still think they are underachieving a bit, the talent on the pitch should be showing better. I read some feedback that the US was lucky (Altidore's goal wasn't luck, it was struck with pace and in the net) and Dempsey's goal was a bit of a lucky bounce but the build up from Feilhaber and Donovan.
Where is was not luck was the play of Tim Howard and Jay DeMerit, the middle of the US was very strong again tonight. Timmy Howard was amazing making the routine saves and a few really amazing ones. Torres had Gooch on his back the entire night if it wasn't Gooch then DeMerit was in on him. The back 4 played very well.
I think Dempsey had a really good game as well, Donovan was all over the field. I wish Donovan's work rate would rub off on Altidore and Conner Casey! Neither of them are chasing, winning balls, or holding possision. Again, what has Adu done to get in the dog house? And what has Conner Casey done to get so much play. This game was perfect for Adu to come in around the 70-80th minute, he would at least understand to hold the ball, go to the corner and kill time.
The Redcard on Bradley was a little soft, he did get the foot but he stayed down and didn't follow through. I think we are getting some harsh calls.
Oh well just happy the US beat the #1 team Spain by playing strong defense, taking advantage of the chances the got, and flying to the ball. Well Done!
